A General Plan is a document required by the State of California to establish City of San Mateo policies regarding land use activities, transportation options, and parks and open space facilities, as well as protection of the environment and community health and well-being. The General Plan includes maps to accompany those policies and explain the City’s intent for how the community may change over the next 20 years.
This new General Plan Update will respond to the recent rapid changes in San Mateo to help guide the location and shape of future development, establish economic development priorities, and safeguard natural resources. In addition, the General Plan Update will help decide how to prioritize funding for roadway and utility improvements, recreational services, and public safety.
You are one of the most important parts of the General Plan Update! Your participation will ensure that the General Plan represents a true community-based vision for San Mateo. The City wants all residents, business persons, and community members to have a voice in the future of San Mateo.
