The evaluation and background research of the City’s current Zoning Code includes identifying key challenges and researching best practices to address those topics, as well as conducting community outreach stakeholder interviews to gather input on the key challenges. This phase also involves identifying potential changes to the City’s Zoning Map and other City plans to align with the Strive 2040 General Plan. The findings from this work will inform a draft framework for the structure of the new Zoning Code.
Using the results from the Evaluation and Background Research phase, the City will prepare a draft Zoning Code Update. The drafting of the Zoning Code Update will be informed by community outreach including workshops, stakeholder meetings, and study sessions with the Planning Commission and City Council to gather public input and feedback. Following publication of the Draft Zoning Code, the City will gather additional community input.
The City will prepare an Addendum to the Strive San Mateo 2040 Environmental Impact Report to analyze the potential environmental impacts of the comprehensive Zoning Code Update.
After public review of the Draft Zoning Code, the City will revise the Zoning Code based on public input, Planning Commission feedback, and City Council direction. The Final Zoning Code will be presented to the Planning Commission and City Council at public hearings to be considered.
